2007 Awards
The 2007 Training Awards presentation took place on December 11th at Wroxham Barns.
The evening was well attended with over fifty members and guests treated to a buffet laid on by the staff of the tearooms.
After the initial welcome and introductions a summary of training was given by Mr Robin Parkinson the principal of Gt Yarmouth College. Mr Parkinson reported that the college was making every effort to keep the boat building course going. In Mr Parkinson’s words “numbers are not great, we really need more employees to commit number to next years course” so we know exactly where we are going.
Before the main event of the evening, the presentation of the awards Mr Alan Brook joint managing director of Oyster Marine gave an excellence talk on his 30 years with Oyster.
Mr Brook highlighted the importance of training in the industry, not only in the main trades of boat building, engineering and electrical but also in the supportive trades such as stainless steel fabrication, upholstery and sail making.
Mr Brook presented the awards to the winners judged from the six finalists who had been short listed by college. This years judges were Neil Bowles and Fred Dale from the ABA with Justin Turner from the college..

ABA Achievement Award
There was an additional award presented this year proposed by Windboats Marine in memory of their trainee who lost his life in a car accident earlier in the year. This award named the “ABA Achievement Award” will now be presented annually to the trainee who has worked extremely hard to overcome obstacles in his path on the way to achieving their personal goal of completion the course.
