Background

The Norfolk and Suffolk Broads host a significant industry based on recreational use of the water. It is also an environmentally sensitive area and there is a need to explore ways in which the boatbuilding and boathire industry can develop to ensure the sustainability of both the industry and the environment.

Partners

The NSBA cooperates with the School of Marine Science and Technology in the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. The university has the largest and broadest-based Marine Department in the U.K., covering the fields of offshore engineering, marine engineering, naval architecture, small craft technology, and marine biological science.

The School has a complement of 28 full-time academic staff, one senior experimental assistant and seven technicians. The Marine Technology section of the School has achieved the national research rating of 5 or 5* for the last 15 years and has an average annual research income of €3M, producing approximately 60 research publications each year.
